I wish that someone who understands these things better than I do would lay out our post-dodgeball options with what they do, because I am confused. The only one I've looked at really is Brightkite, and it seems to be missing what I think are the two most useful functions of dodgeball--the groups, and the ability to send a message to everyone. How else to find something to do on a boring Wednesday night without individually texting a dozen people? I already miss out on enough fun as it is.

Surely someone is working on this?

Microsoft had an inferior dodgeball-like service at SXSW the year we all discovered it. I'm trying to find out if it's still lying around unused somewhere.

But there's probably a group-texting service out there that doesn't cost money. I'll look around.

Shit, just basic texting is painful on my jankytown phone. I'm out of luck if everyone switches to a fancy-phone platform, at least until my contract expires. Britekite never clicked with me...it seems confusing. Maybe I need a carrier pigeon...or will have to call people like olden tymes.

The founder is working on a replacement. He left a note on flickr to that effect. Pretty vague about when, though.
