Trying to be cool is oxymoronic
Sep. 5th, 2003 07:53 pmAccording to Becky, I'm the most sedate drunk person she's ever seen...just a bit more emphatic than usual. And evidently the bartenders want me to have a job there.
I talked to Amanda for a long time yesterday. Her and Jimmie being officially engaged makes me feel so old. We talked about which one of us is going to be the first to have kids. I need to call Nick so we can start planning diabolical things to do to them.
I had the busiest day ever at work today. But Kelly told me I'm doing a good job, so yay, my boss doesn't think I'm a total dumbass!
My mother and I had the marriage conversation again today, and I, being a good Fitzgerald scholar, told her I was going to marry Toby Moreland. "Who?" "Oh, someone with imagination and the courage of his convictions. I want him to lie to me just as sweetly as he knows how for the rest of my life." "You're a weird kid, you know that?" "Jesus, mother, I'm going to make you a reading list. I made one for Stacey." "No, thanks, all your books are about existentialism." "Define existentialism for me and I'll let that one slide..." Existentialism indeed. I did always plan to marry Toby Moreland, though. Anyone in a story called 'The Offshore Pirate' is a-ok by me. Alex and I always wanted to live in a Fitzgerald story. I still do, but now that he has a baby Alex is living in Willa Cather land.
I dream of a world in which other people love books like me.
I need to get into grad school.
