Doing it

I will have more to say about this later, but: I totally took a flying trapeze class, and it was the scariest goddamn thing ever, and I panicked and it took two instructors to convince me to step off the stupid platform. The second through the fifth tries were a lot easier, although I lack the strength in my abs to pull my feet up over the bar. Totally did a backflip off, though!

You guys. What are we doing on Halloween? Why are all the parties on Friday?

Now I don't have to read Where the Wild Things Are myself--Obama will read it to me!

Er. Remember how I said that someday I'd have to get over my dislike of gmail and move there? Well, the time is now--sometime between when I left work yesterday and when I got home last night, kotapress unexpectedly moved to somewhere else and now all of a sudden everything is broken and gone and never to return.

So. Point things to smastridge@gmail.com from now on, yes?

EDIT: Captain Toby gets a cookie for telling me that i can set up gmail to go to my regular email reader--outlook and whatever i use on my mac, so that I don't have to get all frustrated by gmail's threaded email thing that always makes me confused and replying to the wrong things.

I wish that someone who understands these things better than I do would lay out our post-dodgeball options with what they do, because I am confused. The only one I've looked at really is Brightkite, and it seems to be missing what I think are the two most useful functions of dodgeball--the groups, and the ability to send a message to everyone. How else to find something to do on a boring Wednesday night without individually texting a dozen people? I already miss out on enough fun as it is.

Surely someone is working on this?

I am home sick today, all feverish and full of snot, but it meant that I was here when the refrigerator repairman showed up. He thinks I will need a new fridge, which is fine, except there won't  be a fridge until NEXT WEEK at the earliest. Today my first batch of produce going toward my attempt to start liking salad is coming. I cannot eat frozen leaves and things, so I think that the only real option will be to pull out my cooler and keep everything on the balcony. Raccoons probably can't get up this far, right?

The refrigerator repairman also said that I was right about the things in my freezer being more frozen than usual. He thinks that the whole thermostat got itself frozen over.

On the upside, a new fridge will probably not leak like this one does. Well, did.

Ok, I think my fridge is officially busted. It has been frozen solid inside for like a week and it doesn't seem to matter which way I turn the temperature knob. Clearly, all of my fridge-related sleepwalking was not crazy, just anticipatory.

They came to their senses and closed the center, so I am home long enough to grab something to eat and then I am heading up to capitol hill to play in the snow with Brian and Alicia. Come play with us!

Happy Thanksgiving, lovelies!

Livejournal! It looks like I have Caroline's spare ticket to John Updike at Benaroya tonight. Anyone want to go with me? Joe will go with me! Joe is awesome.

You know, I don't think it's even an exaggeration to say that this has been the best night of my life. I'm so glad I got to spend at least part of it with so many of you, even if only via text.

From [livejournal.com profile] asabass :

1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two.
2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable naked mole rat in a stormtrooper costume, a cloud in the shape of Ian McKellen, robot unicorns, anything cuddling anything else, etc. etc.
Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.
3. Include these instructions.

Oh, well, now I understand the last debate. McCain was just imitating The Penguin:

Man. I just went to go make some soup--I've got the stuff onhand for more tomato rice soup, potato leek soup, and slow-cooker minestrone, going to fill up the freezer and attempt to not eat out much this winter--to find that I had the fridge turned up too high, and everything in the fridge is frozen solid. Which is lame. I guess I'm cooking this weekend!

Tomato sandwich for dinner, it is.

Finally. This was a Vogue pattern, and it's the first one I've done that I really like, although I wish you couldn't see so much of the lining at the shoulders. It's got a matching sash, too, but that's too much fabric, so I think I'll stick with the ribbon at the waist. If I can't find something else I like for it, I'll probably make that blue and green toile up using this pattern.

I can't wait for my foot to heal completely so that I can wear those shoes again.

I totally finished this in between watching documentaries about Africa. Nerd.

Goddamn it.

I came home today to find everything on my balcony moved around and one of my window boxes upside down on the ground, the chives totally squished, and the floor torn up. They've been doing work on my building for a couple of weeks now, which was annoying to begin with because they didn't warn us that there would be guys with jackhammers all over the place making a ton of noise for goodness knows how long. But I had no idea that they were going to be moving to my balcony--if I had known, I would have moved my plants myself, and then they would be safe. Not squished.

When I came home and saw my things moved I immediately thought that someone had climbed up and gotten into my apartment, and that I had been robbed, but when I saw all of my stuff still there I realized it was the guys with jackhammers. Which is when I saw my plants. I'm so angry at my building manager for not warning anyone about any of this. Fortunately, it's pretty hard to kill chives, and everything else looks ok. If they damage my tomato plants, I will cut them.

Livejournal! I was skeptical at first, but I have come to the light. If any of you want a fake bachelorette for your face bacheleorette party, I am so there. Especially when it involves free drinks and making out with a relatively cute boy. These are, after all, two of my favorite things.
