Talked to an old friend from high school tonight, which was a bit surreal. I sent her a message the other night to let her know that Amanda and Jimmie are engaged, and she sent me a message tonight to catch up. They're all still in Florida, getting degrees in useful, grownup things...health sciences, interior design, electrical engineering...and here I've fucked off to the ass end of nowhere and am doing a whole bunch of nothing important. It's strange that people that knew me back then are still...I don't know, themselves. I think that I've tried so hard to move past all of the bad things that I keep forgetting not to move past the good ones. And it's funny because they're all so impressed that I moved to Seattle all alone without a safety net (as per usual), and I'm still just trying to keep my head above water in the exact same way that I was when we were 16.
Well, not exactly the same way. At least this time I have a place to live.
But it still isn't enough. I'm tired still of these delicate moments of insight, of sunbeams bursting through clouds and the rest of that shit that gets decoupaged onto plaques in Kansas. I want to be icepicked in the forehead by something -real-.
I want to create something, and I want it to be good.
Shit. Why don't I have some more wine and lighten the mood a little:
