May. 8th, 2004 08:16 pmSo it appears that they'll be operating on the insides of my brother's ears again on Monday. Eric is 9 (Almost 10! For chrissakes! That should be illegal!) and, well, let's break down the problems so far:
1 (previous) operation on the insides of his ears
2 roto-rootering and restructuring of the insides of his sinuses
1 removal of the bone that grew on the outside of his ear and reshaping the ear
2 years of speech therapy
2 biopsies of the calcium buildups under his skin
2 operations to remove some growths in his feet
along with many miscellaneous other issues, medications, and stitches. I'm getting really tired of people cutting on my brother, but the kid's a mess. It's easier to handle now that he's so big, but for a long time he was a tiny, tiny kid and it seemed cruel and unusual to take off so much of him. Hopefully he'll grow out of this, but the three of us are good examples for why you should Not Use Drugs When Pregnant.
I miss the two of them being small. I miss the funny things they would do and the funny things they would say. And the snuggling! Ryan on one side, all blue eyes and dimples, and Eric on the other with his curly red hair and high colored cheeks. They were always so warm, and Eric would bring his blankie along and spread it carefully over the three of us while we watched The Princess Bride, not because they liked it so much but because they knew how happy it made me. I learned a lot, raising those two, about how to keep my temper and about just how explosively I can loose it. And now they're busy getting grown and they're not so fun anymore. Someone should've froze them a few years ago.
