My crystal ball, I keep it hid
Aug. 13th, 2003 12:32 amFurther proof that samantha is a huge geek that takes books way, way too seriously:
dopey> the inferno...well, each tercet is 33 syllables, and each third of the poem is 33 cantos, with a bonus to make the numerologically significant number 100. the rhyme scheme is perfect, and totally reflects the infinitude of the Trinity. it's an amazing achievement, probably beyond the realm of modern sensibility.
homey> beyond modern understanding of poems and the english language
dopey> it's the closest thing to literary perfection, um, ever, especially since the medieval man saw himself as part of an integrated cosmos
homey> rick james wrote over 5000 songs while he was in jail...
homey> maybe not poetic perfection..
dopey> sentimentally, my favorite of the divine comedy is Paradiso. but as a student of literature...the achievement of the Inferno is the seat of modern literary thought. without the Inferno, rick james wouldn't have existed.
homey> evolution of the english
dopey> it was written in italian
homey> or language more or less
homey> yea... correction realized that
dopey> no, not language. -thought-. -creativity-.
dopey> every single written impulse can be traced back to dante, because dante influenced the writers that influenced the writers that influence us today
homey> scarry.. its like.. he invented rock n roll..
homey> and everybody says it was elvis...
dopey> yup. dante would have rocked out.
homey> i've always pondered... if beethoven was alive today, what type of music would he be playing?
dopey> decked in leather, man. he was a -stud-.
dopey> if beethoven was alive today and heard what passes for music, he would have shot himself when the blues ended.
I really need a new hobby. Does anyone know how to crochet?
