Straighten up and fly right
Dec. 7th, 2003 04:23 pmThe stockings are hung by the baseboard heater with care...
This year's post-modern Christmas tree has been created. It's not nearly as convincingly tree-shaped as last year's, but it'll suffice. This is a tradition now instead of a spontaneous "I bet if I put that ironing board on top of that chair, it'll look like a tree." I tried not to think too much about how it was going to work before last night, because I didn't want all of the randomness of it to be gone. (Thinking about not thinking may, however, be counter-intuitive.) My friends, to their credit, didn't even blink an eye after the initial 'you're decorating the ironing board?' and Jeff, to his credit, was highly helpful.
I've not yet decided if I'm going to make another attempt at Hitler's bunker this year. Somehow, it's not the same without Hay-den.
I like days off. With my glasses on and my hair super-straight from the amazing straightening iron Stasia used on it yesterday ("it's ceramic, so it puts out an ionic charge"), dressed in jeans and my UW sweatshirt (which I always feel a bit of a fraud wearing) I feel like I look like a brand-new undergrad. This is a joke, of course, because I am still poignantly without educational institution.
There are things that need wrapping now.
